Model UN
General Overview
Despite the technological advances that have linked the globe, ethnocentrism is still a major problem around the world and especially in the United States. Mode United Nations addresses this problem by teaching students to look at issues from multiple points of view. Students will be given the opportunity to represent a wide variety of countries, and will learn to understand and defend the ideals of their appointed country. In doing so, students will also learn to research effectively, become comfortable with public speaking, and to show respect and diplomacy to others who have ideals drastically different from their own.
Model UN Activities
-
Study Nights: Members will have access to the library to research their appointed country's position on the issues being discussed at the next debate.
-
Practice Debate: New members will learn how to debate effectively, draft resolutions, and the workings of an actual debate.
-
Debates: Members will participate in a real debate against students from other schools. The debate will follow the same format as the actual United Nations.
-
NAMUN: North Atlantic Model United Nations is the last debate of the year in Washington, DC. Members will have the opportunity to meet and debate with other delegates from all over the country and the world.
