Concurrent or Dual Enrollment Option
One of the most exciting academic programs that Holy Name offers is our partnership with Alvernia University. Several of the coursesat Holy Nameare also credited at Alvernia. Dual Credit classes at Holy Name are approved by the appropriate academic department at Alvernia as being comparable to the same class offered on the Alvernia campus. A class of three to four credits costs $225, well below what students will pay to take the same course in college.
The Dual Credit program differs from Advanced Placement classes in that the students do not take qualifying exams to receive the credits. Most colleges accept these credits, and if they don't, Alvernia will refund the tuition.Since the advent of this great program, many of ourformer students are reporting to us that theyleave high school with 15 or more collegecredits already completed. In some cases this allows the college students to reduce their academic load, graduate early, or some opt to double major. In school year 2006/2007, 105 students participated in 185 college courses. This year our students are signed up to receive a record1,042 credits. Does this program work? Ask 2007 graduateThomas Gallen, a freshman at Temple University. He entered college with 21 credits already completed.
